Parimal Vaghela is a contemporary Indian painter based in Ahmedabad, known for his hyperrealist still life works that explore everyday objects with heightened visual intensity.
Largely self-taught, Vaghela developed his practice through sustained observation, discipline, and independent study. While formally trained as an engineer, he continued to pursue painting alongside his academic and professional life, eventually dedicating himself fully to his artistic practice.
In the early stages of his career, he worked extensively with landscape and figurative subjects, while also undertaking commissioned portraiture. Over time, his focus shifted toward still life, where he found a deeper and more sustained engagement with form, light, and composition.
His works have been exhibited in prominent galleries, including Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, and have been featured in leading publications and media platforms.
Statment
My work engages with still life as a space for observation, transformation, and quiet reflection. I am drawn to ordinary objects—often overlooked in daily life—and seek to reveal their inherent beauty through light, form, and composition.
The inclusion of newspapers within my paintings serves as both a visual and conceptual device. They anchor the work in a specific moment in time, embedding contemporary realities within otherwise timeless compositions. In this way, the paintings function as both aesthetic experiences and subtle records of their time.
My practice is not concerned with delivering a fixed message, but with creating a visual experience—an emotional connection between the object and the viewer. Through careful attention to detail and atmosphere, I aim to elevate the familiar into something contemplative and enduring.
Painting, for me, is a continuous journey—at times demanding, yet deeply fulfilling—driven by a pursuit of clarity, discipline, and excellence.
